Certification and Advancement
Employers prefer to hire childcare workers who have earned a nationally recognized Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or the Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) designation from the Council for Professional Recognition and the National Child Care Association, respectively.(1) Courses offered by Lab Four prepares student for the classroom portions of the CDA and CCP examinations.
Course Overview
Learn the fundamentals of childcare and the important elements of nurturing and caring for children who have not yet entered formal schooling. Discover techniques on how to properly supervise older children before and after school. Learners will explore the important role in children’s development including attending to children’s basic needs, organizing activities and implementing curricula that stimulate children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth. Learners will be exposed to proven techniques that help children explore individual interests, develop their talents and independence, build self-esteem, and learn how to get along with others. Fifteen-week course. Class meets twice per week.
